Marcus Irwin - Artist & Printmaker

Marcus Irwin's graphic screen and digital prints juxtapose street and popular imagery with chance phrases caught in passing, combining to expose the incongruousness of context.

'In my work I attempt to link the nuances of graffiti, the illustrated image, commercial visual language and the traditions of art, since all of these fields feed creatively into my my present-day interests. At this time the interplay between image and text takes shape, along with a desire to explore the rift between so-called high and low culture. Frequently motifs from movies, television, and advertising, among other sources from contemporary life feed into my work. It is my aim to use the images that are ubiquitous in our everyday lives to confirm and question a personal visual language, as well as the visual language that surrounds us daily.'
